This entry will make no sense whatsoever unless you've read the story Collateral Damage on fanfiction.net. I've taken the impulse to argue with one of my fictives and placed it here, instead of at the end of the story as a long (and probably annoying to some readers) author's note. Feel free to chime in on this debate!
^_^
I'm right, after all...
Oh, by the way, the icon was a gift from Lucidscreamer. She was evidently inspired by a little scene in my very silly King of Duelists story. If you like silly, I highly recomment her Millennium Spork story.
Seto, about this omake chapter...
Seto: That's 'Kaiba' to you. What about it?
I'm still going to call you Seto, you know, so you better get used to it. The omake is far too fluffy.
Seto: It looks fine to me. It meets my approval and has been rubber-stamped for posting.
You are completely out of character, Seto.
Seto: *glares* How so? And be quick, I have work to do.
You're being all nice and doing whatever Mokuba wants with no more than a token protest.
Seto: ...and?
You're being fluffy!
Seto: ...and?
It's freaking me out!
Seto: Why should I be held accountable for your lack of perception and imagination?
*bristles* Watch it, dragon-boy!
Seto: *sighs* I've told you to stop calling me that. Look, what's your problem, anyway? It's just the omake chapter...
But... It's a special gift for the readers. After I was so careful to make certain you were in character for the story...
Seto: You were duly compensated for that.
'Duly compensated'? How, pray tell?
Seto: *preens* Why, by spending time in my company. What else would any of you Yu-Gi-Oh fan-girls want?
*facepalm* Has it completely escaped your narrow-minded notice that I like the Dark Magician? Mahaad? Not you?
Seto: *waves a hand arrogantly* You're just delusional. It's my company you like.
*headdesk* *headdesk* *headdesk* (Who's being delusional?) We'll see if you think I'm your fan-girl after I write the amnesia story for you...
Seto: Who? What? Where?
Har, har. Very funny. *in a monotone* You're such a card. I'd like to deck you.
Seto: *sour look for stupid puns*
Fine. I'll write the m-preg story. *glares* You know I will!
Seto: *serenely* I'm not worried about that one. I know it squicks you.
It squicks you more. After all, you'd be the one carrying a child.
Seto: *pales a bit* Still, you don't do 'squicky'.
*smiling sweetly* For you, Seto-dear, I'd make an exception. Especially if it managed to evict you permanently from my Musetorium. *wails* I wanna write about Mahaad, again!
Seto: *snort* Stop that caterwauling. I don't believe you.
Fine, be that way. For now, I'll leave you to try to explain your OOC attitude to the readers. I'm leaving this post open for comments. You get to respond to them!
Seto: *pales again* You -- you wouldn't!
Oh, yes, I would. Have fun dealing with it!
Seto: *much more subdued* But... you're my FID director...
What?
Seto: Fanfiction Impact Division director.
Oh, hell, no. I don't want to try to explain all the odd things you and your defective clones (like Kibia -- ye gods, how hard is it to spell the character's name properly?!) are doing in most of these stories. You're on your own, dragon-boy!

Have a good Christmas Kitty, and you too Seto - don't work too hard!

Date: 2006-12-21 03:05 pm (UTC)I admit I don't loathe him the way I used to -- ever since the Memory World Arc where he finally started being a real person part of the time instead of an arrogant jerk.
I will also admit that he's perhaps a bit easier to write than some of the other characters, because his skepticism about mystic happenings is easier to relate to than blanket acceptance of very weird things (come on, Yugi's got an ancient pharaoh's soul time-sharing his body and he's not freaking out about it!) for those of us here in the real world, but...
He's really not likable. If not for Mokuba, he'd be a completely nasty, selfish, borderline evil character. I just started reading the Death-T part of the manga, and he's just...
Grrr! I should write an AU story in which Seto's selfish actions cost Mokuba his life and see what develops.
