I admit I don't loathe him the way I used to -- ever since the Memory World Arc where he finally started being a real person part of the time instead of an arrogant jerk.
I will also admit that he's perhaps a bit easier to write than some of the other characters, because his skepticism about mystic happenings is easier to relate to than blanket acceptance of very weird things (come on, Yugi's got an ancient pharaoh's soul time-sharing his body and he's not freaking out about it!) for those of us here in the real world, but...
He's really not likable. If not for Mokuba, he'd be a completely nasty, selfish, borderline evil character. I just started reading the Death-T part of the manga, and he's just...
Grrr! I should write an AU story in which Seto's selfish actions cost Mokuba his life and see what develops.
